Founded in 1880, Chin-ya is a sukiyaki restaurant located just 50 meters from the Kaminarimon, one of Asakusa’s most famous landmarks. As a result of the influence from Western cultures starting in the second half of the nineteenth century, consumption of beef became acceptable in Japan. Combined with traditional nabe (hot pot) cooking techniques, the dish of sukiyaki was born. Ever since, it has been a dish very representative of Japanese food, and is known the world over. Color woodblocks depicting Chin-ya’s early days give you a feel for its history as you enjoy the authentic flavors of Chin-ya’s sukiyaki. |
